On Monday 25 March, the Pan-African Parliament Presidential choice by Southern Africa, Senator Chief Fortune Charumbira ,  won the election in the plenary and will complete his term. The Zimbabwean traditional leader and senator was first elected in June 2022 while Zimbabwe went for general elections in August 2023, necessitating a by-election being required according to African Union’s Executive Council decision. Senator Chief Charumbira on Mar 22, 2024 won by 23-22 votes and was declared sole Presidential candidate by Southern Africa Regional Caucus chaired by South African MP Hon. Pemmy Majodina. Challenger Zambia MP Miles Sampa has lost his bid.
