The AfCFTA seminar hosted by Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA) on South Africa’s trade agreements, export regulations & AfCFTA is currently underway.

The South African Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition, in collaboration with the Gauteng Economic Development department, is hosting an African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) awareness workshop at the Constitutional Hill women’s prison in Johannesburg.

The schedule for the event is focused on South Africa’s trade agreements, export regulations, and incentive schemes. The workshop includes presentations from various government departments and agencies, including the hosts- Gauteng Economic Development Department and the Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition. There are also sessions dedicated to discussing support programs for small and medium-sized businesses.

The workshop is aimed to engage with the private sector, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), women-owned businesses, and youth-owned export-ready businesses.

The AfCFTA seeks to establish a single continental market, encompassing a population of approximately 1.3 billion people and a combined Gross Domestic Product of approximately USD 3.4 trillion.

By participating in preferential trade beyond the Southern African region, South African companies can unlock significant progress and benefits for their respective businesses. This workshop aimed to communicate and engage opportunities for South African companies in preferential trade beyond the Southern African region.

The workshop sees the presentation of sector master plans, namely steel and metal fabrication, agriculture and agro-processing, retail-clothing, textiles, footwear, and leather value chain, automotive industry, sugar value chain, and forestry.
