British Robinson, a renowned advocate for literacy and women’s health, has been appointed as the head of Prosper Africa by President Biden. Robinson, an African-American woman has been recognized for her impactful work in Forbes’ 50 over 50 list, and currently serves as the CEO and president of the Barbara Bush Foundation For Family Literacy.

Robinson’s appointment marks the first political appointment made by President Biden for the role of Prosper Africa coordinator. During her tenure at the Barbara Bush Foundation For Family Literacy, Robinson spearheaded several initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of low-literate adults and their families. The foundation’s launch of the National Action Plan for Adult Literacy has made substantial strides in improving literacy rates and empowering individuals through education.

Prior to her work in literacy advocacy, Robinson focused on preventing women’s cardiovascular disease and held senior positions with esteemed organizations such as Women For Women International and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. Her dedication to women’s health and empowerment has garnered widespread recognition and respect.

Prosper Africa, a key initiative by the Biden administration, aims to enhance economic ties between the United States and Africa, promoting trade and investment opportunities across various sectors. The recent US Africa Business Summit held in Gaborone, Botswana, shed light on critical topics related to healthcare and development in Africa.

The summit facilitated discussions on accelerating the establishment of the African Medicines Agency, rethinking procurement and supply chain systems, enhancing surveillance capabilities and data utilization, and strengthening the healthcare workforce through capacity building initiatives. These deliberations sought to drive progress, foster innovation in healthcare practices, and contribute to sustainable development goals across the continent.

With British Robinson at the helm of Prosper Africa, the United States is looking forward to further collaboration and meaningful engagement in Africa’s economic growth and development. Her appointment underscores the Biden administration’s efforts in fostering partnerships in education, and health in Africa.
