Deputy Speaker of Nigerian House of Representatives Backs Tanzania’s Dr. Tulia Ackson for IPU Presidency
Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in Nigeria, called for greater economic partnerships and cooperation among the 54 African countries, advocating the removal of artificial boundaries that hinder free movement of people and goods. The deputy speaker made the call on Thursday, when he received the Speaker of East Africa Legislative Assembly, Hon. Joseph Ntakirutimana in company of the Speaker of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) parliament, Hon. Sidie Mohamed Tunis and a member of Tanzania Parliament, Hon. Mlozi Shogo Richard.
During the visit, the member of the Tanzanian Parliament, Hon. Richard, appealed to the Nigerian Parliament to support Dr. Tulia Ackson’s bid for the IPU presidency, highlighting her qualifications and the importance of breaking gender norms and empowering women in top decision-making positions. Kalu expressed Nigeria’s readiness to support Dr. Tulia Ackson’s candidacy for the President of the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) and requested her to share her manifesto with lawmakers.
