ECOWAS and AU Send Joint Fact-Finding Mission to Assess Liberia’s Readiness for 2023 Elections
In preparation for Liberia’s Presidential and Legislative elections on October 10, 2023, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU) have jointly sent a pre-election fact-finding mission to the country. Reportedly, the mission led by Professor Attahiru Jega and Ambassador Calixte Mabari, aims to assess Liberia’s readiness for the upcoming polls.
The delegation will engage with various stakeholders, including the government, National Electoral Commission, Judiciary, political parties, civil society organizations, security agencies, and international development partners. A comprehensive report will be submitted to inform ECOWAS and AU’s support for the electoral process in Liberia, similar to the assistance provided during the 2017 elections.
