Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing Early September
The ninth Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is set for this September 4, and Chinese President Xi Jinping will host African leaders in Beijing for the triennial gathering it is expected to convene.
Senior African and Chinese representatives will discuss the future trajectory of Sino-African cooperation, it is reported, as China aims to reinforce collaboration in an evolving global landscape.
China is said to be Africa’s largest bilateral creditor, with Chinese foreign direct investment in Africa rising from $75 million in 2003 to $5 billion in 2022. Lending and investment will be available to those driving industrialisation, export and import policies, health, technology, and people-to-people ties. Particularly welcome are stakeholders from the African infrastructure development ecosystem, including:
- PPP Units
- Electricity and Water Utilities
- Project Developers
- EPC Companies
- Transaction Advisers and Consultants
- Legal Professionals
- Commercial Bankers
- Multilateral and Development Finance Institutions
- Institutional Investors
- Investment Banks and Firms
The forum will also be promoting the importance of strengthening healthcare systems, enhancing digital infrastructure, and fostering educational and cultural exchanges. African nations are keen to diversify their economies and reduce reliance on raw material exports, while China offers valuable expertise in building robust manufacturing sectors.
