Economic Freedom Fighters Demand Recall of US Ambassador for Interference in Domestic Affairs

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in South Africa is calling for the immediate recall of United States Ambassador to South Africa, Reuben Brigety, over allegations of interference with the country’s domestic affairs. The EFF has accused Ambassador Brigety of violating South African sovereignty by attempting to influence the government’s response to the recent unrest in the country.

The Ambassador on Monday said South Africa gave Russia weapons in December and those weapons were used to attack Ukraine while he made a bet with his own life. The rand crashed against the US dollar following the allegations, causing further concerns for the South African economy. Ambassador Brigety has not yet responded to the EFF’s call for his recall. The United States Embassy in South Africa has also not issued a statement on the matter.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the EFF accused Ambassador Brigety of violating South African sovereignty by attempting to influence the country’s domestic affairs. The organization claims that Ambassador Brigety interfered with the recent unrest in the country by calling on the South African government to take “swift and decisive action” to restore order.

EFF spokesperson, Vuyani Pambo, said in the statement, “Ambassador Brigety has shown a blatant disregard for the principles of international diplomacy by trying to influence the domestic affairs of a sovereign nation. His actions have contributed to the destabilization of the country, and he must be held accountable.”

The EFF has called on the United States government to recall Ambassador Brigety immediately and issue an apology to the people of South Africa for his actions.
