Pan-African Robotics Competition Showcases Africa’s Youth Technological Potential
The recently concluded Pan African Robotics Championship, held at the NBA Africa Academy in Dakar, Senegal, from July 24-29, 2024, was a dazzling display of Africa’s brightest young minds and their boundless potential in STEM. This event, featuring 94 teams from 25 countries, was a powerful testament to the continent’s growing interest to advancing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education and technological innovation.
The Pan-African Robotics Competition (PARC) is an All-African Robotics competition. Today it is the largest robotics competition in Africa having educated 1500 African youth in Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) over the past six years. Beginning with 7 West African countries, the competition has rapidly expanded to include participants from 37 countries across Africa and its diaspora.

The competition’s Stars League category was particularly intense, with teams from Uganda, Mali, Senegal, and Côte d’Ivoire displaying remarkable skill and strategy. The Ugandan team from the African School of Science and Technology (ASIST) secured second place, narrowly missing the top spot by just four points to the formidable Robots Mali. ASIST’s robot, which won the ‘Best Design’ Award for its innovative problem-solving solution in the oil and gas sector.
The Pan African Robotics Championship not only provided a platform for young African minds to demonstrate their capabilities but also highlighted the real-world applications of their innovations.
